Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Girls Rock Jacksonville! There are many volunteer positions available for individuals both with and without musical experience.
Instrument Instructor:
Music experience necessary. Instructors are responsible for working with other teachers to plan lessons and teaching and creating a supportive learning environment for the campers.
Band Coach:
Music experience preferred. On the first day of camp the campers form bands. The coaches provide help and guidance in all aspects of working as a collaborative creative team: setting up, tuning, songwriting, learning how to play together, figuring out stage moves, etc.
Workshop Facilitator:
No music experience necessary. We need volunteers with expertise in leading workshops on topics related to music, empowerment, DIY, and/or identity. Some suggested topics include:
- Music Herstory
- Zine Making
- Image and Identity
- Non Traditional Instruments
- Self Defense
- Song Writing
- DIY Merch/ Screen Printing
These workshops will be one hour in length, taught twice a day on one day, and divided into groups by age. Workshops are usually co-taught. Let us know about your availability and we’ll work with you.
Counselor:
No music experience necessary. Counselors will serve as mentors for a small group of girls. This involves participating in games and skits, making sure campers are where they need to be at all times, accompanying them between classrooms and offering emotional support throughout the day.
Roadie:
Some knowledge of music equipment preferred but not required. We need roadies to help set up, break down, and move equipment throughout the week. We’ll teach you everything you need to know (we promise!) There is a lot of flexibility with this role.
Receptionist:
No music experience necessary. The receptionist assists with the check-in and out of campers every day, monitors visitors, coordinates in-camp communication, gives directions, answers questions, and sells showcase tickets. There is a lot of flexibility with this role.
Floater:
Volunteers will help out with vital last-minute needs, i.e. running to Kinko’s or the hardware store, fill in if another volunteer can’t make their shift, and generally lend a hand when a situation arises. There is a lot of flexibility with this role.
Showcase Production Assistants:
Volunteers will work merch and info tables, sell tickets, fold programs, guide camper bands as they go on stage and help ensure that all aspects of the showcase concert run smoothly. Must be available Saturday Aug 4th.
